Item: Federal Sword Waist Belt Plate
Design: Stippled background with raised eagle clutching three arrows in its left talons and an olive branch in its right along with thirteen stars with ribbon above the eagle. Raised rays and wreath partially surround the eagle.
Construction: Cast brass with integral eagle motif and tongue. Applied nickel-silver wreath.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated. The plate has an overall mellow darkened brass patina with a nice body curve. Its applied nickel-silver wreath is intact with belt attachment bar present. The rear, stamped with bench number "547", retains the belt attachment tongue. File marks appear along the tongue end edge of the plate. There are no cracks, breaks or repairs.
Approximate size: 55 x 87 mm.

Comments: This sword belt plate demonstrates the fine detailed work of the craftsmen of the period. It will be an excellent addition to any Civil War buckle, plate or general relic collection.
