Item: Federal Sword Waist Belt Plate - High Quality with Gilt
Design: Stippled background with raised eagle clutching three arrows in its left talons and an olive branch in its right along with thirteen stars with ribbon above the eagle. Raised rays and wreath partially surround the eagle.
Construction: Cast brass with integral eagle motif and tongue.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated. This gilded plate has a very pleasing dull yellow-gold patina on both front and rear. There is some wear on the high relief areas of the eagle motif. The belt attachment bar is present with no bends. The rear retains the belt attachment tongue. The buckle has a nice original body curve and there are no cracks, breaks, bends or repairs.
Approximate size: 49 x 79 mm.
Comments: This high-quality non-excavated sword belt plate will be an excellent addition to any Civil War buckle, plate or general relic collection.
