Item: Federal Sword Waist Belt Plate - Benchmarked - High Quality
Design: Stippled background with raised eagle clutching three arrows in its left talons and an olive branch in its right along with thirteen stars with ribbon above the eagle. Raised rays above eagle with wreath around the eagle.
Construction: Cast brass with integral eagle motif and tongue. Applied nickel-silver wreath.
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated. The buckle has a pleasing uncleaned dull brass patina. The applied three-piece nickel-silver wreath is present and complete. The belt attachment bar is present with no bends. The rear retains the belt attachment tongue and has a benchmark number of "313". Also, visible on the rear is the impression of the cast-in eagle (see Comments section below). The buckle has a nice original body curve with no cracks, breaks, bends or repairs.
Approximate size: 51 x 84 mm.

Comments: According to "American Military Belt Plates" by Michael J. O'Donnell and J. Duncan Campbell, on the above-mentioned page regarding the rear eagle impression: "eagle cast in back to even the thickness of the pour."
