Five Excavated Marked Bullets

SOLD

Five different types of excavated marked bullets from an old bullet collection. All of the bullets were recovered in the area of Culpeper County, VA by a local digger.

Included in the group are: (from left to right in image)

  • .577 caliber Enfield bullet marked "57 / 4" ("57" represents the number believed to be stamped within its cavity base, not sure what the number "4" represents)
  • .54 caliber Starr carbine bullet marked "202"
  • .50 caliber Gallager carbine bullet marked "443"
  • .54 caliber Merrill carbine bullet marked "147"
  •   ? caliber Williams cleaner bullet marked "544"

With the exception of the Enfield bullet marked "57 / 4", the numbers represent what the digger believed to be the identification of the bullet type using "Civil War Projectiles II Small Arms & Field Artillery with Supplement" by W. Reid McKee and M. E. Mason, Jr.  Virginia Relics cannot guarantee that the identifications are accurate. The bullets offered here were acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
