This excavated flattened .58 caliber three-ring bullet, recovered from a campsite in Culpeper County, VA., was acquired directly from the Virginia relic digger. Every now and then, bullets are recovered with whittle marks or, in rare instances, intricate carvings, hand-crafted by soldiers using their pocket knives just to pass the time. In this case the bullet was simply pounded flat leaving it in its conical outline for possible use as a poker chip. It has an overall white patina and measures approximately 1.14 x 1.76 inches. It weighs one-ounce which is the same weight of a "dropped" .58 caliber three-ring bullet, an example of which is pictured with it to demonstrate the before and after appearance. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
