General George B. McClellan Patriotic Pin

SOLD

This patriotic pin was recovered in the area of Nokesville, Va. It is constructed of stamped sheet brass with a raised profile of General George B. McClellan below "McCLELLAN", with Laurel leaves below and to either side. Ample gilt remains on the front and the rear is missing its attachment pin. It measures approximately 1 x 1 inch and has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.

Examples of this type pin and its use can be found twice in the following Civil War relic reference book:

  • "Excavated Artifacts from Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War Supplement One" by Stanley S. Phillips, on page 104, item 18 attached by chain to a soldier's identification disk and also on page 182, item 3 attached by chain to a star and crescent moon device.

See scans of the above pages in the additional images.

This device will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War patriotic pin, insignia, or general relic collection.
