Gettysburg Veteran Medal

SOLD

This medal, commemorating the 1893 anniversary of Gettysburg, was awarded to New York veterans who served on the field. At the top is a bronze bar with raised letters “GETTYSBURG VETERAN” with “JULY . 1 . 2 . 3 / 1863” above. The disk, measuring approximately 1-3/4 inches in diameter, has on one side New York State’s monument located at Gettysburg with 1863 and 1893 to either side. The other side of the disk shows the New York state seal encircled at the rim with “* NEW YORK DAY * / DEDICATION OF STATE MONUMENT AT GETTYSBURG JULY 1. 2. 3.  1893.” Suspended from the bar, and backing the medal, is a red, white, and blue ribbon which shows wear and is missing a small bottom portion. There is no name or any other markings on the medal. The disk is hefty and has a very pleasing light brown bronzy patina which matches the bar. This veteran’s medal will be an excellent addition to any Civil War veteran display or general relic collection.
