Horse Bridle Rosette

SOLD

This excavated horse bridle rosette is in very good condition and was recovered in Wilson's Creek, Missouri. Its brass front has a very nice chocolate brown patina with no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs. Its rear has a near complete complement of solder but is missing its attachment bar. Hand printed on the rear solder surface is a series of numbers which are believed to be the digger's inventory number. An example of this type of rosette can be found in Howard Crouch's relic reference book "Civil War Artifacts" on page 134, item #8. Crouch notes that this rosette is "a simple design often found in CS cavalry camps." and an image of this page is included in the additional images. This rosette will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War cavalry or general relic collection.
