Comments: The Kentucky Military Institute produced cadets that fought for both sides of the Civil War. The button was acquired directly from the family of the Virginia digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
Additional information: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, "The Kentucky Military Institute was founded in 1845 by Colonel R.T.P. Allen. It was the oldest school in Kentucky, and the third military school organized in the United States after the United States Military Academy."
