Merchants and Planters Bank Five Dollar Note Savannah, Georgia 1860

This original Confederate five dollar note was issued by the Merchants and Planters Bank of Savannah, Georgia. It is in good condition and is dated June 1, 1860. It was printed by the American Bank Note Company and is hand signed by the Cashier and the President of the bank. It is numbered "2111". The front of the note features a detailed panoramic Vignette of Justice and Liberty seated by a large shield with the Georgia Coat of Arms inside while a large ship passes on their left and a train on their right. Printed on the note is "FIVE / STATE OF GEORGIA / FIVE / THE MERCHANTS AND PLANTERS BANK / Will pay FIVE DOLLARS to bearer on demand SAVANNAH, June 1, 1860." The paper is crisp with complete borders. There are several pinholes visible if held up to a good light along with minor corner creasing with folds. This handsome note will come in a clear acid free envelope for preservation and display and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War note or general relic collection.
