This excavated Civil War relic display case includes fourteen Michigan state seal cuff buttons, two cuff button backs, a .58 caliber three ring bullet and two .69 caliber round balls. This display is from the Glenn Trimmer Collection. According to Glenn's second journal documenting the recovery of these items, at least eleven of the Michigan cuff buttons, the three ring bullet and the two round balls were recovered in the afternoon of November 17, 1998, from Malvern Hill, VA. He recorded that many of the button fronts were separated from their backs when recovered which he painstakingly took the time to reattach. All fourteen buttons are in fair condition all with varying degrees of gilt and ground action. Several have pin holes or slightly larger. All but one have complete shanks. Glenn apparently added three additional Michigan cuff buttons along with two cuff button backs to the display at some point, all of which appear to have come from the same site.
Over the decades of relic hunting, Glenn maintained two journals, listing and often describing in detail, information regarding the relic's recovery. The two journal pages mentioned above are included in the additional images with some of the names and exact recovery information removed for privacy reasons, however, the buyer will receive full copies of these two original documents which will include all of the information. The wood and glass display case with hardware measures approximately 7 x 5 x 2 inches and weighs approximately 1.4 pounds. The relics are mounted in place by the pressure of the glass against the relics and blue felt on a foam backing. This display was acquired directly from Glenn's family and will be an excellent addition to any office, den, or family room. Read about Glenn Trimmer by clicking his above linked name.
