Mississippi Infantry Coat Button

SOLD

Item: Mississippi Infantry Coat Button
Backmark: "HYDE & GOODRICH. / N-O." rmdc
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 21 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. The button surface has a smooth brown patina with gilt beautifully high-lighting the letter "I", the star and letters of "MISSISSIPPI". Interestingly, there are five small evenly spaced pushes to the front which I do not believe occurred by accident. Each push is found between the five points of the star which gives the button a pleasantly unique appearance. It may have been the work of an idle Mississippi infantryman. The rear is pushed and has a readable backmark. It has no cracks, breaks, or repairs.

Comments: This button was acquired directly from the digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
