Item: Mississippi Militia Coat Button
Backmark: Blank with a depressed channel.
Design: A star with five beveled points surrounded by "MISSISSIPPI" on a plain field.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 21 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, shank missing. The button's smooth surface has an overall chocolate brown patina with gilt highlighting the star and letters "MISSISSIPPI". No pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Unknown. 
Reference: Tice: MP235A1 Albert: MP 6
Comments: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice, these buttons were likely manufactured by Casimir Rouyer of New Orleans. This button will be an excellent button to add to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
