Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 24 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. This very solid button is covered with gilt. There is a moderate push to the center front but otherwise no cracks, breaks, or repairs. The shank is solidly intact but is pushed into the rear. The backmark is very readable.
Recovered: Unknown
Comments:
A home was established in Washington, DC to house aging or disable Civil War veterans who could not otherwise provide for themselves. Being former soldiers, they were given uniforms to use on ceremonial occasions. This button will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
