Comments: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice on page 362, regarding this particular classification (NH200) of buttons:
"A disciplined volunteer militia unit, The Battalion of Amoskeag Veterans from Manchester, may have been the first to use these around 1855. They are considered the standard New Hampshire buttons. All of the large button manufacturing firms produced variations of the coat of arms design during the 1850s and 1860s.
This button will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
