Comments: While excavated "Cast I" buttons are readily available, non-excavated examples are rare. For several reasons, these buttons are one of my favorite relics of the Civil War. Its simplicity in design, its weight, and manufacturing crudeness, make a very attractive and thoroughly Confederate produced and used button. They were made to last and, what I find most appealing about this particular example, is its manufacturing crudeness as is visible on its front and shank. This non-excavated Confederate Infantry button is a beautiful example will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
