North Carolina State Seal Coat Button

SOLD

Backmark: "MITCHELL & TYLER / RICHMOND, VA" rmdc
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 23 mm.
Condition: Excellent, excavated, secure shank present. This button is gleaming with gilt that nicely highlights the fine details of the North Carolina state seal. Notice how well the sailing ship stands out in the lower left quadrant of the front of this button. The button has a small push to the left of "Plenty's" head but otherwise has no cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Comments:  The state seal depicts the female figures of "Liberty" and "Plenty" with Liberty on the right holding a liberty pole in her right hand and a scroll inscribed "CONSTITUTION" in her left. "Plenty" is holding a cornucopia in her left hand and wheat in her right. This beautiful and highly detailed button will be an excellent addition to any Civil War button or general relic collection.
