Item: Federal 2.9-Inch Read-Parrott Shell
Cannon: 10-pounder Parrott rifle, 2.9-inch caliber.
Approximate size: 2.86-inch diameter; 8-3/8-inch length; 7.6 pounds weight.
Fuzing: Zinc fuze adaptor for paper time fuze.
Sabot: Pre-rifled wrought iron tapered ring.
Condition: Good, excavated. The shell's iron surface is moderately pitted, though stable. While the fuze adaptor is missing, the sabot is present. It has been deactivated and is ready for display. There are no repairs.
Recovered: Unknown.
Comments: This Read-Parrott shell will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
