Enfield Bullet - "Pulled" with Rifling Marks

Item: Enfield Bullet - "Pulled" with Rifling Marks
Description: This pulled or extracted .577 caliber Enfield bullet has several shallow lines of varying length both raised and cut into its body that run from base to nose.
Recovered: Unknown
Approximate size: .571 x .961 inches.
Comments: The cut and raised lines are barrel rifling marks created during the extraction process. The lines aren't evenly distributed as one would expect on a fired example. What is interesting about pulled bullets is the fact that they were handled not once, but twice by the soldier. Often, in the heat of battle when everything was on the line between life and death, with continued firing often the guns simply misfired, and the bullet would need to be extracted prior to re-loading. With bullets whizzing by, the extraction process time must have seemed an eternity. This example will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
