These two type III Williams cleaner bullets managed to collide likely as a result of repeated heavy firing from Federal troops. This example clearly shows one bullet impacting the rear of the other. The bullets fuzed together from the force of the collision of their heated lead. The bullets have a partially soiled white patina with visible rings and distorted plunger bases. I have included an image of an unfired example of a single type III Williams cleaner with the collided examples in order to demonstrate the before and after firing. Individual type III Williams cleaner bullets weigh approximately 446 grains (1.02 ounces). These collided bullets appropriately weigh twice as much at 879 grains (2.01 ounces). They are from the Glenn Trimmer Collection and recovered from Wilson's Wharf in Charles City County, VA. They will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
