Item: State of New York Belt Buckle - Broad Letter Style
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised letters "SNY". Rear with solder fill and stud type (aka puppy paw) attachment hooks under the "S" for right hand use, with a thick single tapered hook at that opposite end.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its brass front has aged into a nice mellow brown patina. The plate still retains its original slight body curve. There are minor dents in the letter "N". The rim is in great condition with a couple of minor dents from period use. The rear has a complete complement of solder with the exception of minor surface flaking primarily in the area of the rim. All three belt attachment hooks are present. The plate has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Recovered: Orange County, VA
Approximate size: 55 x 88 mm.

Scans of the above noted reference book pages are included in the additional images.
Comments: This pattern, with the broad letters "SNY", are less common to recover and this example will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
