Item: Federal Dragoon Coat Button
Backmark: Undetermined or blank.
Construction: Low convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 19 mm.
Condition: Good, excavated, secure shank present. The button has a dark brown-greenish patina with heavy wear. It has no pushes, cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: Williamsburg, VA area.
Reference: Tice: DR215A Albert: DR 4
Comments: According to "Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865" by Warren K. Tice on page 127, this classification of Dragoon buttons, were manufactured during the 1840s until about 1861. Examples like this one are recovered from Civil War sites and it will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
