Item: Confederate Infantry Coat Button - "Script I"
Backmark: "S. ISAACS CAMPBELL & Co / LONDON / 71 JERMYN. ST" dm
Design: Lined old English "I" on a plain field.
Construction: Convex, two-piece.
Approximate size: 22 mm.
Condition: Very good, excavated, secure shank present. Brown patina. Slight push to front right of letter "I". Back mark is present but difficult to see. No cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Recovered: A Virginia find but specifically unknown.
Reference: Tice: CSI215A2 Albert: CS 177
Comments: The button was acquired directly from the local Virginia digger and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War button or general relic collection.
