Federal picket pins were used in the field to secure horses when at rest. This excavated example is constructed of wrought iron and measures approximately 13-1/8 inches in length and weighs a little over one pound. Its surface was clear coated at some point so as to stabilize the iron. It is in overall good condition but is missing its ring.
