Item: Pre-Civil War 1818-1835 Common Militia Belt Plate - High Quality
Design: A detailed eagle clutching arrows in its right talons and an olive branch in its left. Above the eagle is a lined field, "E . PLURIBUS.UNUM" and thirteen stars with pikes to either side. To either side of the eagle are cannon barrels with stacks of balls.
Construction: Rolled stamped brass or copper with applied tongue, belt loop bar and iron keepers.  
Condition: Excellent, non-excavated. It has a very pleasing brown patina which still has remnants of silver wash. The rear retains its tongue and belt attachment bar with keepers. The plate has a nice body curve with no cracks, breaks, bends or repairs.
Approximate size: 69 x 69 mm.
