This excavated ring is interesting relic. The band appears to be constructed of silver with a raised bezel, possibly copper, that I can only describe as a blob. Nearly all of the band has a dark surface substance. The ring's band is separated at the bottom likely to allow it to be adjustable. It measures approximately 13/16-inch in diameter (side to side exterior) and 1-inch top to bottom (exterior) including bezel. It is in very good solid condition. It was included with a collection of other excavated Civil War relics acquired by Virginia Relics many of which were recovered from both Virginia and Pennsylvania. My limited research indicates that it may be an ancient Roman ring. It will be an excellent example to add to any excavated Civil War soldier personal or general relic collection.
