Reference: Similar examples can be found in the following Civil War relic reference books:

  • "Some Civil War Bullets 2" by Thomas J. Stelma, page 258, #08-060.
  • "Civil War Projectiles II Small Arms & Field Artillery with Supplement" by W. Reid McKee and M. E. Mason, Jr., in Supplement pages 8 & 9, item 636.

See above pages in the additional images.

Comments: This "rocker base" Sharps carbine bullet is a very rare find and examples are mostly recovered in Trans-Mississippi sites associated with Texas troops. These bullets get their name due to their slightly rounded base allowing the bullet to gently rock when placed on their base. This bullet will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War bullet or general relic collection.
