This excavated .52 caliber breach loading percussion Sharps carbine was recovered in the area of Wilderness, VA. The iron of this military firearm is in solid stable condition and is complete except for the wood of the buttstock, the forend stock, the buttplate and the barrel band. A small section of the buttstock wood remains between the tangs of the barrel and trigger plate. Other remaining parts include the lockplate with the integral Lawrence primer, rear and front sights, trigger guard with lock, breach block with nipple and the sling bar with ring. The Sharps carbine were heavily used by the US Cavalry and this excavated example will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War firearm, cavalry, or general relic collection.
