This excavated Confederate side knife, brass scabbard throat, or "frog", and tip were recovered together in the area of Fair Oaks, VA in the 1970's. The knife blade is intact as well as the throat and tip. The blade was lightly clear coated at some point to stabilize the iron and the throat was recovered mashed flat. The brass throat and tip have a blended brown-green patina. The blade measures 9 1/4 in length and is 1 5/8 inch in width. The throat measures approximately 1 7/8 x 2 1/2 inches. The tip measures approximately 2 inches in length. This CS side knife, with throat and tip, has not been repaired and will be an excellent display and addition to any excavated Civil War weapon or general relic collection.
