Confederate Six Pounder Bormann Fuzed Half Case-Shot Shell

SOLD

Item: Confederate Six Pounder Bormann Fuzed Half Case-Shot Shell
Construction: Cast iron with solder Bormann time fuze, brass under-plug, lead shot in an asphalt matrix.
Approximate size: Weight: 2.4 pounds. Diameter: 3.57 inches.
Condition: Very good, excavated, with no repairs. The iron shows moderate old scaling and is lightly clear coated. The fuze appears to be punched at the 2-1/2 second mark which indicates that it was fired, but did not ignite. The leather flame-seal gasket is fairly well preserved beneath the fuze. This half case-shot is inactive.
Comments: A complete example of a Confederate six pounder Bormann fuzed case-shot can be found in the 1993 edition of "Field Artillery Projectiles of the American Civil War", by Thomas S. Dickey and Peter C. George on page 29, item B. This artillery half case-shot will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
