Comments:  This type spherical "case-shot" for 12-pounder cannon is not typically available. According to the "Encyclopedia of Black Powder Artillery Projectiles Found in North America; 1759-1865, Volume II" by Colonel John F. Biemeck, on page 462, item 4.52-US-CS-07, "This case-shot was used during the Mexican War but was obsolete when the Civil War began. However, stocks remained in the Union inventory and were on hand in state Army and Navy arsenals when the (Civil) war began. The Confederates rethreaded some to accept the metal fuze plug".

The case-shot is from the collection of Glenn Trimmer. According to page 31 of his first journal, he recovered it during a four-day hunt while on leave from the US air force. A copy of this journal page is included in the additional images, and a hard copy (without arrows) will be included with the purchase. This documented case-shot will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
