These two excavated 1.3 inch canister shot for a 24 pounder Howitzer were recovered in Smith County, TN in 2018 by Quindy Robertson of the Hartsville, TN area. They were recovered in an area that was occupied by U.S. Brigadier General George R. Crook who was in command of the nearly 7,800 man Army of the Cumberland garrison there in 1863 and January 1864. General Crook's command included artillery, infantry, and cavalry regiments. Click here to read the whole story of Quindy Robertson and his recovery of these canister shot. The canister shot offered here are in good solid condition and have been left in their raw untreated state. They measure, in both diameter and weight, within the proper range for use in a 24 pounder Howitzer, an image of which is included in the additional images. The canister shot pictured in this listing will be the exact pair you will receive and they will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
