Item: US 20 Pounder Read-Parrott Shell
Fusing: Schenkl percussion fuse.
Construction: Cast iron with wrought iron sabot.
Approximate size: Weight: 15.6 pounds. Diameter: 3.63 inches. Length: 10 inches.
Condition: Very good, excavated, with light-moderate pitting with no repairs. The visible portion of its brass fuse is in excellent condition with a very visible stamping of "J. P. SCHENKL PAT. OCT 16. 1861". The shell's integral wrought iron sabot is present and intact showing its machine swaged, five lands and grooves, pre-rifling. The shell has been deactivated and is ready for display.

Comments: This artillery shell would have been fired from a 20 pounder Parrott rifle with a 3.67 inch caliber. It will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War artillery or general relic collection.
