The rear has a near complete complement of solder with minor surface flaking mainly near the rim. All three belt attachment hooks are present. Carved into the solder is a large letter "B", initials "W.B.S", and one other smaller letter "A" and "B". The plate retains its original body curve and has no cracks, breaks, bends, or repairs.
Recovered: Gettysburg, PA
Approximate size:
55 x 86 mm.
Comments:  If you are interested in a very nice solid excavated US buckle with what appears to be soldier carved initials, then this one is for you. With a little research using these initials, perhaps an identification can be made. This example will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War buckle, plate, or general relic collection.
