Item: US Waist Belt Buckle - Stud Hooks
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised letters "US". Rear with solder fill and stud type belt attachment hooks.
Condition: Very good, excavated. Its brass front has a rich brown patina. The rim is intact and does have a few very small nicks and cracks along its edge. The rear retains nearly all of its solder with minor flaking along the rim. All three belt attachment hooks are present with both stud cups showing partial solder loss. The buckle has no bends or repairs.
Recovered: Quantico, VA area.
Approximate size: 54 x 86 mm.
Comments: This excavated US belt buckle was acquired directly from the Virginia digger. Included in the additional images is an image of the digger (on left), with his hunting buddies and their detectors dating to the 1970-80s. The plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
