US Belt Buckle - Unusual Iron Stud Washers - Rare Variant

Item: US Belt Buckle - Unusual Iron Stud Washers - Rare Variant
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised large letters "US".  Rear with solder fill and stud type attachment hooks.
Condition: Excellent, excavated. Its brass front has a very pleasing plum-brown, patina. The rim is in good shape with only minor chipping and a very tiny nick above the letters "US". The rear has a complete complement of solder and all three belt attachment hooks in place. There are no cracks, bends, or repairs.
Recovered: Federal campsite in Baton Rouge, LA in the 1970's.
Approximate size: 56 x 86 mm.

Comments: This buckle is a rare variant of the US Regulation 1839 waist belt plate due to the presence of the iron stud washers. It will be an excellent and unique addition to any Civil War buckle, plate, or general relic collection.
