This excavated US belt plate is in very good condition and is marked with its manufacturer stamp of "E. GAYLORD". Its brass face, with raised letters "US ", has aged into a beautiful even brown patina. There is a period ding with bend in the 4 o’clock position with no shiny brass visible. The rear has a nearly full complement of solder and all three belt attachment hooks solidly in place. There also appears to be the letter "H" lightly etched into the solder. This plate measures approximately 53 x 83 mm, has no cracks or repairs, and will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
