US Cartridge Box Plate - Solder Backing

This is the solder backing from a US cartridge box plate. Both brass front and iron attachment loops are missing. It measures approximately 48 x 80 mm and was recovered from the Quantico, VA area. The plate was acquired directly from the Virginia digger. Included in the additional images is an image of the digger (on left), with his hunting buddies and their detectors dating to the 1970-80s. Also included is an image showing its use.

The plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
