These two halves of an excavated US plate are either the remains of the same waist belt buckle or cartridge box plate. Both have a rich brown patina. According to the digger, each half was recovered from the same dig site in the Quantico, VA area. When aligning the two halves together at an angle it is clearly evident that they are from the same plate. Neither the solder backing or attachment hooks are present. When placed together it measure approximately 57 x 87mm. Included in the additional images is an image of the digger (on left), with his hunting buddies and their detectors dating to the 1970-80s. Also, an additional image is included showing its use for both a belt buckle and cartridge box plate.
Reference: An image of a similar, but not exact cartridge box plate is found in the following Civil War relic reference book:
See above page in additional images.
A glass top display case will be included at no additional charge. The plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
