Item: ExcavatedUS cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has a very nice dusty yellow-chocolate brown patina. There is a small break in the rim at the 4 o'clock position. The rear has nearly all of its solder but does show some very minor surface flaking. Its iron attachment loops are no longer present.
Recovered: Fredericksburg, VA area.
Approximate size: 54 x 85 mm.
Comments: This cartridge box plate was acquired directly from a local central Virginia relic digger and it will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
