Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass front, with raised letters "US", has a very nice even green patina. The body of the plate is slightly concaved with minor rim bending. There is a tiny freeze crack at the two o'clock position. The rear has nearly all of its solder with an area of loss running approximately two inches along the rim. Its iron attachment loops are no longer present.
Recovered: Brandy Station, VA area.
Approximate size: 57 x 88 mm.
Comments: This cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
