US Cartridge Box Plate

Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass front, with the tall raised letters "US", has a very nice dusty brown patina. There is rim damage at five o'clock area and "U" end of the plate. The rear has some solder loss and flaking mainly in areas of the rim. Its iron attachment loops are no longer present. The plate has no repairs.
Recovered: Brandy Station, VA area.
Approximate size: 57 x 86 mm.
Comments: This cartridge box plate will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
