Item: Excavated US cartridge box plate- baby size.
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with solder fill.
Condition: Good. Its brass front, with the raised letters "US", has a very pleasing brown patina with soil remaining in a few areas. The rear solder is present with moderate surface flaking and its iron attachment loops are no longer present. The plate has very small dings in the rim at both ends of the plate along with a very tiny break at the edge of one end of the rim. These issues are not visible while looking directly at the plate and are really only detected with a light and magnifier. There is also a very slight upward bend at the "S" end in of the plate, otherwise the plate has no cracks, repairs, other breaks or bends.
Comments: This baby size cartridge box plate will be an excellent display piece as well as an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
Recovered: Port Hudson, LA
Approximate size: 40 x 70 mm.
