Item: US Cavalry Bridle Bit Boss
Construction: Cast brass. 
Design: Raised letters "US" on a swirled stippled background encircled within a raised rim with plain attachment tabs.
Use: Insignia device attached to both sides of a US regulation Cavalry bit. An example of its use is included in the additional images.
Condition: 
Very good, excavated, uncleaned. Dusty brown patina. Slight wave. One tab still retains attachment pin portion. No cracks, breaks, or repairs.
Approximate size: 1-1/4 x 2-1/8 inches.
Recovered: Chesterfield County, VA.
