This US infantry "hunting horn" hat insignia is constructed of thin stamped sheet brass and was recovered in the Petersburg, VA area. The majority of the device is present with the mouthpiece and its tube portion missing. The brass has aged into a very nice yellowed soil brown patina. The rear still has one of the two brass attachment loops still present and it has the device has no repairs. Approximately 1.58 x 2.80 inches. This infantry hunting horn insignia, though incomplete, will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War insignia or general relic collection.
