  • "American Military Belt Plates" by Michael J. O'Donnell and J. Duncan Campbell, on page 352, Plate 576. (published 1996)

(A copy of either book may also be available for sale to accompany this plate, contact me for availability and price.)

Comments: This buckle was in the collection of, and acquired directly from, Norm Flayderman who was a well-known collector, dealer and author for more than 60 years. According to "American Military Belt Plates" by Michael J. O'Donnell and J. Duncan Campbell, this plate "likely adorned a shoulder belt or cartridge box flap" and that "it appears that an iron backing was removed and the belt hooks added". There is something very special about owning the example in the book that other collectors refer to and admire. This plate will be an excellent published addition to any excavated Civil War plate, buckle, or general relic collection.
