Item: US Waist Belt Buckle - Arrow Type Hooks
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised large letters "US". Rear with solder fill and brass arrow belt attachment hooks.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass front has a dusty greenish-brown patina. At some point the plate sustained damage at the "S" end of the plate and a repair was made to restore it to its original shape. The brass was re-shaped back into position with a patch made to the rear solder. The rim has a couple of small cracks under the "S" and a very small break under the "U". Approximately three quarters of the original rear solder is still present, the surface of which is moderately pebbled. The two arrow belt attachment hooks are present with its tongue missing and likely why the buckle was left behind. Printed on the rear repair material surface is "Poffenberger Rd".
Recovered: Hagerstown, MD area.
Approximate size: 57 x 88 mm.
Comments: This US waist belt buckle will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War buckle, plate, or general relic collection.
