US Belt Buckle

Item: ExcavatedUS belt buckle
Construction: Stamped thin sheet brass with raised letters "US". Rear with solder fill and stud type belt attachment hooks.
Condition: Good, excavated. Its brass front has a brown patina with a couple areas of green tints. The rear has nearly all of its solder with part of the brown surface layer missing at the rim one end. While the two rear studs (puppy paws) are present, the single belt hook is no longer present. While the plate has some body bends and a couple of tiny nicks in the rim, it has no cracks or repairs.
Recovered: Brandy Station, VA
Approximate size: 54 x 84 mm.
Comments: The missing belt hook is likely the reason the buckle was left behind. This buckle will be an excellent addition to any excavated Civil War plate or general relic collection.
