US Cartridge Box Plate Marked "BOYD & SONS / BOSTON"

SOLD

This non-excavated US cartridge box plate is constructed of stamped sheet brass with a solder filled rear. The letters "US" are the typical font style used on both belt and box plates manufactured during the Civil War by Boyd & Sons of Boston. The rear is stamped with their mark of "BOYD & SONS / BOSTON". The face of the plate stills shows some slight traces of its original gilt and is nearly flawless. The rear shows all of the letters of the manufacturer's stamp on a full complement of solder. While the iron attachment loops are no longer present, the plate has no cracks, bends, or repairs and will be an excellent addition to any Civil War plate or general relic collection. Approx. 56 x 88 mm.
