This stamped thick metal disc commemorates The Virginia Agricultural, Mechanical & Tobacco Exposition, an event held in Richmond in 1888. On its obverse, in the center, is a group of agricultural and mechanical implements e.g. scythe, rake, spade, anvil, shock of wheat, barrel, etc. with "SOUVENIR" above. In very small letters below is "P. L. Krider Co. Phila.", its manufacturer. Around the border is "THE VIRGINIA AGRICULTURAL, MECHANICAL & TOBACCO EXPOSITION * " On the reverse is a statue of a full male figure with "RICHMOND VIRGINIA." above and " *** JACKSON *** " underneath the statue. It measures approximately 38 mm. (1.5 inches) and is constructed of what appears to be white metal. It is a souvenir of the Virginia Agricultural, Mechanical and Tobacco Exposition held in Richmond, Virginia, from October 3 through November 21, 1888. Included in the additional images are images of drawings that include “The Main Exposition Building” and the “Formal Opening of the Exhibition by Govenor Lee”. There is also an image of an envelope with a drawing of the Exposition building printed on the rear that includes the following: Ashton Starke, President; A. R. Venable, Secretary; John S. Ellett, Treasurer; Henry C. Jones, Director General. Also included is an image of a letter from Exposition Chairman Geo. D. Thaxton encouraging the states of North and South Carolina to be represented as part of the Exposition. This disc is in very good condition and will be an excellent addition to any Richmond, VA or general post-Civil War relic collection.
